“ I was just doing it…I felt compelled really, to do it because I loved the music so much.”
A philosophy JEN “PIPES” DURKIN has stuck to. Attending Berklee College of Music and then moving to New York City set Jen with a broad range of connection and knowledge. From gospel, to funk, to world music, the roots and mixed genre lends itself to Jen’s unique and amazing journey on and off the road.

Jen’s high profile east coast funk band DEEP BANANA BLACKOUT set Jen on the path to attain her dreams and then some. After selling out clubs like Irving Plaza, Wetlands in NYC and the Gothic Theatre in Denver, DBB fast became a jam band festival favorite. DBB stopped touring in 2000 but still reunites bringing original hits along with all-star jams and classic funk tributes. Jen and DBB are local favorites in the Black Rock area and is honored to have performed all 20 years at hometown festival Gathering of the Vibes and will appear at the Allman Brother’s PEACH FEST in August.

2001 Jen began touring with the wizard of woo himself, Bernie Worrell and the woo warriors. A real dream and honor for her to play with the two time Rock n Roll hall of famer inducted with Talking heads and Parliament Funkadelic a major musical influence.
The continued years have had Jen collaborating and sharing the stage with her idols and respected collegues. Her humble approach and broad efforts have brought many marked success. Walking the Red Carpet, meeting Dick Clark, winning an American Music Award AND performing right after Metallica all in one night was definitely a checked off. While in the project “the bomb squad” The award having the distinction of being given as a new music award by internet vote.

While juggling independent opportunities and mixed media events, Jen took on a tour with the Rhythm Devils in 2006. She joined Grateful Dead drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann with Mike Gordon (Phish) and Steve Kimock on an amazing 30 day tour debuting new songs written by Robert Hunter. The privilege to then record the tunes in the historic Starlight Studios in PA. An amazing way to end the tour with the band releasing a DVD with the Rhythm Devils live at the Chicago Theatre.
Pipes kept on touring in the Mickey Hart Band with master of funk George Porter, Jr., Walfredo Reyes, Jr. and Kyle Hollingsworth though the summer of 2008.

The new project packed with tradition and new inspiration — JEN DURKIN AND THE BUSINESS is keeping it up. Focusing on the quality of the music and the experience brought by seasoned collaboration she teamed up with Rich Zurkowski, Darian Cunning, Jesse Gibbon and brother Johnny Durkin). JD and “the business” kicked of their tour dates at SOUPSTOCK music and arts festival paving the way for an awesome stream of gigs and special guests in the past year including, DOWNTOWN BRIDGEPORT, Gathering of the Vibes night at Harbor Yard, the Bella terra music festival with Pete Levin of Greg Allman band and the 5 blind boys of AL on keyboard. The festival appearances continued at CATSKILL CHILL where Twiddle and Schwizz were special guests. Oteil Burbridge was next to sit in at WORMTOWN MUSIC FEST. The producers of Gimme Shelter had Jen and the band perform a unique evening of music off the Rolling Stones Documentary Soundtrack at the Palace Theater in Stamford! As the fall continued a great music fest collaboration formed that same month with SONS OF FUNK sharing the stage at The Shuck n Ride Festival.

Kicking off 2015 JD and Biz attended the NAMM conference and performed a special show at THE VIPER ROOM opening for tribute to Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain with special guest George Clinton. Their West coast debut was complete with a performance for the TELEFUNKIN ALL STAR JAM at the HOUSE OF BLUES with members of Fishbone, P Funk and Snarky Puppy. Jen celebrated her birthday in the spring opening for DUMPSTAPHUNK at BROOKLYN BOWL where she was invited to sing with her favorite band!
